Fame and Fortune
Words and Music by Ed Johnson
I started out the night, tuning up my Telecaster
By 9:30 it was sounding fine
I can’t tell you if we can set up gear any faster
The band before us ain’t on time
They keep playing covers of Zeppelin tunes and attempts at Pink Floyd
What I wanna play for you is all mine
But I don’t need fame and fortune; I just want to entertain
With a little bit of integrity so nobody will complain
I certainly want to rock the house, and keep ‘em coming back for more
But I don’t need fame and fortune; just the money from the door
The stage is ours, and tables are filling up now
Our harmonies are in tune
In the back row I see familiar faces cheering us on
Friends and groupies howling at the moon
Don’t know if it’s us or the beer they’ve been drinking
Their party started somewhere in the afternoon
But here they, giving us all, that they can muster
And for our egos it’s not too soon
Pick up the pace; we’ve got ‘em screaming for more
Their dancing dominates the floor
There’s a girl in the front shaking everything left to right
After these two sets, we can send her home happy to night
But I don’t need fame and fortune; just the money from the door
But I don’t need fame and fortune; just the money from the door
But I don’t need fame and fortune; just the money from the door
