Too Red Hot for the Blues

Words and Music by Ed Johnson

I started out writing a blues song, then you walked in the room

A flower in your hair, and legs up to there

Lost my concentration too soon

You took a seat, crossed those stems, all eyes turning, wondering where you’d been

You ordered a drink and got me to think

Where I could take this song I’m writing

Was thinking of a sad song about love

But then I got distracted by you

Was thinking of a sad song about love

But you’re too red hot for the blues

Well, I keep looking and your eyes flash; some other guy wants you to dash

You shake your head, look at me instead

Somehow my bumbling frustration’s a smash

I’m supposed to be singing about tough times; cryin’ in my beer with something that rhymes

But just my luck, my words got stuck

Checking you out as you start to get up

You pop out a compact and tousle your hair

You’re make-up’s intact, I can’t help but stare

You know I’m hooked, I know that look

I’m look forward to a night that cooks

It I want this to happen gotta change my tune

An up-tempo number to move that room

You say you want to dance so I’ve got a chance

If I don’t screw this up to soon

Been struggling on the strings for the right idea

You stand in a pose and that body’s real

(You say) Put down the guitar, let’s get outta this bar

I know we can take this song pretty far
